Sulphur Memories: Alchemist 0.3.2 is out

The update is partially compatible with saves from 0.3.1 (Some of the new features will only work on new saves).

As new controls have been added, you might have to solve the keybindings conflicts if you set up custom keybindings before.
You can watch the video to see the changes in the new version, or read the changelog below.

Changelog:

Presentation

    New sounds for ghouls.
    New sounds for efreets.
New sound for the potion of unruly flame.
New sounds for looting animal remains.
New music for the sewers (will only take effect on new save files).
Particle effects when looting stumps and sacks.
Active gargoyle statues in dungeons now have eyes flashing red, to better distinguish them from inactive ones.
Better water tiles (only has an effect when water shaders are disabled).

Quality of life

    New quick harvest button.
    • The default key is 'F'.
    • Clicking the button (or pressing the key) causes you to gather loot from every neighbouring cell. Looting each individual object still takes a turn.
    • Similar to other queued actions, this will stop when threatened or taking damage. Pressing the button when threatened will only make you loot one object at a time.
    • Quick harvest will not automatically open locked containers.

Aiming interface now displays the currently selected action on the "exit" button.
    Specific action keys.
    • The setting "Specific action keys behaviour" under Options -> Gameplay -> Controls controls the way this feature behaves.
    • "Press to aim" will open the aiming interface on button press.
    • "Press to select" will switch to the key-specific action on button press.
    • "Hold to override" (intended to be used with mouse controls) will change the selected action to the key-specific action while the button is held, and switch back when released.
    • The default keybindings are: 'T' for throw, 'Y' for push, 'G' for interact, 'B' for hit.

New controls settings to go with the above feature:
    • Auto-switch to "throw" when equipping potions from the hotbar. When enabled (default), equipping a throwable potion from the hotbar also switches the selected action to "throw". This is how the game behaved before, however, this might not be ideal if you're using specific action keys, which is why it can be disabled now.
    • Mouse wheel to switch actions. When enabled (default), you can scroll the mouse wheel to switch actions. If you want to avoid switching them accidentally, it can now be disabled.
"Press and hold to confirm research" setting. If disabled (new default), the research is done with a single button press. If enabled, you will need to hold the key in the research interface for a short time to confirm research. This is how the game behaved before, and can be switched to if you preferred it that way. Some people were confused by having to hold the button, which is why it's not the default behaviour.

    "Tutorials" tab in the journal.
    • The tutorials contain detailed information on the game's basic features, and are intended for when you get confused or need a refresher.
    • If you choose to play through the prologue, tutorials are unlocked gradually as relevant topics come up during the prologue.
    • If you skip the prologue, or load a save from the previous version, all tutorials are unlocked immediately.

Certain explanations during the prologue that caused people to get confused, are made significantly more blatant.
When choosing 1 life, the game explicitly warns that it's not recommended for the first playthrough.
"Action" button in the HUD now displays two keys: the key to perform the action, and the key to open the actions menu.
In the inventory, books now display the type of knowledge they give and how much you can learn from copies of a particular book.
    • This is most useful when shopping, so you can know if the book is of use to you before you buy it.

Books that contain no more useful knowledge now automatically turn into paper when used.
    • Books can no longer be scrapped manually.

Areas on the world map can now be marked as favourite.
    • Favourite areas are displayed at the top of the list.

Areas on the world map are now automatically marked as complete when you reach the final reward.
    • This feature will not work for areas created in old versions.

Areas on the world map can be deleted manually.
    • You can not delete unique areas.
    • This feature will not work for areas created in old versions.

Areas are now automatically cleaned up when not visited for a prolonged time.
    • There are separated settings under Options -> System -> Data for cleaning up complete and not complete areas. The default is 12 and 3 in-game months.
    • Unique areas are never cleaned up.
    • Favourite areas are never cleaned up.
    • This feature will not work for areas created in old versions.

Balance

Itchy skin effect can no longer lower your health below 10. The description now also correctly states 10%, not 20% to take damage every turn.
    • While it was never a dangerous effect to begin with, people seemed to overreact to it a lot, though the intention was for it to be a minor annoyance.

Kingsblood simulacrum duration buffed from 15 to 45 turns.
    • It seems like with 15 turns of duration, kingsblood's only use was to activate 1 statue per potion. I want other applications (such as pacifying crystal guardians) to be more viable.

Potion of disruption's stun duration buffed from 3 to 5 turns. The description now also mentions that it affect inanimate magical objects.
    • Since the potion of disruption's effect on immaterial creatures is outright destroying the target, it never made sense to use them for just 3 turns of stun instead. I want them to be viable for a wider range of situations.

    Coagulant's crafting cost changed: something sanguine 0.25 -> 0.1
    • Since it's primarily an early game potion, and a very niche one, the cost was too much to justify ever making it.

Centipede's mandibles processing output changed. Old processing output was too irrelevant for how late in the game you find centipedes.
    • Grind: 1x something telluric (changed from 1x something dead).
    • Distill: 0.5x something umbral (changed from 1x something toxic).

Destroyed phantasms now leave a cloud of fog behind, that can be harvested for phantasmal mist.
    • Phantasmal mist can be processed into 1x something boreal by sorting, 1x something phantom by distilling.
    • Phantasmal mist can also rarely be found among generic occult-related loot.

Unmelting ice can now be found among major rewards.
    • Unmelting ice can be processed into 10x something boreal by sorting, 1x something sempiternal by distilling.

Significantly expanded the pool of books for lategame areas to include many of the early game books.
    • Since in these areas, the number of books is overall much higher, the player would very quickly reach the point of finding no new knowledge when exploring the lategame areas, which would disincentivise future visits.

Bug fixes

Fixed whispering candle not whispering anything in bewitched woods (tier 2 area).
Fixed a rare generation error that would cause the ring that opens the secret area in mage's house, to appear inside the secret area sometimes.
Fixed a rare generation error that would cause centipedes to spawn over deep water in caves (and often get stuck).
Fixed the hotbar not immediately updating when torches burn out or the lantern runs out of fuel.
Removed an unnecessary 1-frame delay between turns.
Various minor grammar and typo fixes.

Other

"Controls" tab under Options -> Gameplay is split into "Controls" and "UX".
Reduced RAM usage by ~400 MB.
    Reduced loading time on startup.
    Updated LÖVE to 11.5.

Thank you for your attention. The next update will be dedicated to adding more early-game content.
